Repaglinide 2 mg (Hirepa 2) 2 mg tablet is an oral antihyperglycemic agent used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is meant to be taken as part of a complete diabetes care programme that should include exercise, a healthy diet and regular monitoring of blood sugar levels.

How To Take
This medicine should be taken at least 30 minutes before the main meals.
It may be necessary for you to take this medicine for a long time, such as for a few years. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment time frame.
Take Repaglinide precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Dosage of Repaglinide 2 mg (Hirepa 2) 2 mg
Adult: As monotherapy or combined with metformin: Initial: 0.5 mg. Patient transferring from another hypoglycemic agent: Initial: 1mg. All doses are taken 30 minutes before each main meal. May adjust dose at intervals of 1-2 weeks, up to max 4 mg/dose. Maximum dose of 16 mg/day.
If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose of Repaglinide 2 mg (Hirepa 2) 2 mg
Signs of overdose may include the following:
- Hypoglycaemic reactions (e.g. dizziness, sweating, tremor, headache, seizure, loss of consciousness or coma)
Seek medical help immediately.
People with the following medical conditions should not take Repaglinide:
- Diabetic ketoacidosis with or without coma
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus
- Concomitant use with gemfibrozil.
Repaglinide may have the following side effects:
- Severe hypoglycaemia
- Acute coronary syndrome (e.g. MI).
- Abdominal pain
- Back pain
- Upper respiratory tract infection
Do not use Repaglinide in people with the following conditions:
- The raised acid level in your blood (diabetic ketoacidosis)
- Severe liver disease
- Diabetes type 1
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- Birth control pills
- Thyroid hormones
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and non-prescription medicines.
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Repaglinide.
How Repaglinide 2 mg (Hirepa 2) 2 mg Work?
Repaglinide is a short-acting meglitinide analogue which lowers blood glucose by inhibiting the ATP-dependent K channels in the beta-cell membrane, resulting in depolarization. By this, it leads to the opening of calcium channels, resulting in a calcium influx that stimulate insulin release from the pancreatic beta-cells.

Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:
- Hepatic and severe renal impairment
- Pregnancy and lactation.
- Avoid alcohol
- You need to maintain a healthy diet and weight to help keep your diabetes under control
- Store between 20-25°C. Protect from moisture.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
- Do not use Repaglinide that is expired or out of date.
