Atorvastatin 20 mg (Lipidator 20) 20 mg tablet is an antihyperlipidemic agent used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Excessive cholesterol and triglycerides in the body can lead to many health problems such as stroke and heart diseases, including heart attack.

How To Take
This medicine may be taken with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.
Atorvastatin must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better.
Take Atorvastatin precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Dosage of Atorvastatin 20 mg (Lipidator 20) 20 mg
Adult: Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia; Nonfamilial hypercholesterolaemia; Mixed dyslipidemia: Dose is individualized according to baseline LDL-C levels, the goal of therapy, and patient response. Usual initial dose: 10 or 20 mg once daily, may be adjusted according to response at 2-4 weeks interval. Typical range: 10-80 mg once daily. Maximum of 80 mg/day.
Familial homozygous hypercholesterolaemia: As an adjunct to other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis): 10-80 mg daily. Prophylaxis of cardiovascular events in high-risk patient Primary prevention: Initial: 10 mg daily, may be given at higher doses as necessary to attain LDL-cholesterol levels according to current guidelines.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose of Atorvastatin 20 mg (Lipidator 20) 20 mg
If you think you may have used Atorvastatin more than the usual dose, please immediately seek medical help.
Contraindications
People with the following medical conditions should not take Atorvastatin:
- Active liver disease
- Unexplained persistent serum transaminase elevation
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Concomitant use with cyclosporine, systemic fusidic acid, telaprevir, glecaprevir/pibrentasvir and tipranavir/ritonavir combinations

- Rarely, immune-mediated necrotising myopathy (IMNM), interstitial lung disease.

Potentially fatal:
- Severe rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure
- Hepatitis
- Hepatic failure
- Rarely, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, anaphylaxis, toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Do not use Atorvastatin in people with the following conditions:
- Liver disease
- Pregnancy
- Lactation

How Does Atorvastatin 20 mg (Lipidator 20) 20 mg Work?
Atorvastatin is a selective and competitive HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that inhibits the enzyme needed in the conversion of HMG-CoA to produce mevalonate. The reduction of mevalonate production results in lower LDL-cholesterol levels.
Uses
Atorvastatin is used to treat the following conditions:
- Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
- Nonfamilial hypercholesterolemia
- Mixed dyslipidemia
- Familial homozygous hypercholesterolaemia
- Prophylaxis of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients
Special Precautions and Connected Warnings
Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Hypothyroidism
- Hereditary muscular disorders
- Recent stroke
- Transient ischaemic attack
- Severe acute infection
- Hypotension
- Major surgery
- Predisposing factors for rhabdomyolysis
- Severe metabolic disorder
- Uncontrolled seizures
- Patients who consume large quantities of alcoholic beverages
- Renal impairment
- Children
- Patients taking concomitant CYP3A4 inhibitors [e.g., clarithromycin, itraconazole, fosamprenavir, ritonavir (plus darunavir, fosamprenavir, or saquinavir), elbasvir/grazoprevir, boceprevir, and nelfinavir]
- Avoid excessive consumption (more than 1 liter a day) of grapefruit juice
- Avoid alcohol. Consuming large amountsof alcohol is damaging to your liver
- Avoid St. John’s wort and red yeast rice
- It is essential for you to to maintain a healthy, low-fat and balanced diet
Storage Conditions
- Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
- Do not use Atorvastatin 20 mg (Lipidator 20) that is expired or out of date.
