Glycitop MR 60 | Gliclazide Modified Release 60mg – 10 Tablets

Gliclazide Modified Release (Glycitop MR 60) 60 mg tablet is a new formulation of the sulphonylurea gliclazide, which consists of a hydrophilic matrix hypromellose-based polymer that expands to form a gel when exposed to gastrointestinal fluid, progressively releasing Gliclazide.

How To Take

Take your tablet(s) with a glass of water at breakfast time (and preferably at the same time each day). You must always eat a meal after taking your tablet(s).

As the treatment for diabetes is usually lifelong, you should discuss it with your doctor before stopping this medicinal product. Stopping could cause high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), which increases the risk of developing complications of diabetes.

Dosage of Gliclazide Modified Release (Glycitop MR 60) 60 mg

Recommended dose: Initially 30 mg daily (½ tab), may be increased to 60, 90, or 120 mg daily, in successive steps. The interval between each dose increment should be at least one mth except in patients whose blood glucose has not reduced after two weeks of treatment. The dose may be increased at the end of the 2nd wk of therapy. Maximum of 120 mg daily.

Switching from Gliclazide 80 mg tab to Gliclazide 60 mg MR tab: 1 tab Gliclazide 80 mg tab is comparable to 30 mg MR formulation (e.g., ½ tab of Gliclazide Modified Release ). Consequently, the switch can be performed with careful blood monitoring.

Switching from another oral antidiabetic agent to Gliclazide 60 mg MR tab: Initially, 30 mg/day, followed by a stepwise increase in dose, depending on the metabolic response. 

Patients at risk of hypoglycemia: Initially min of 30 mg daily.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

Do not double a dose under any circumstances.

Overdose of Gliclazide Modified Release (Glycitop MR 60) 60 mg

Signs of overdose may include the following:

• Hypoglycemia

Seek medical help immediately.

Contraindications

People with the following medical conditions should not take Gliclazide Modified Release:

• Hypersensitivity to Gliclazide or any of the excipients, other sulfonylurea, sulfonamides
• Type 1 diabetes
• Diabetic pre-coma and coma
• Diabetic keto-acidosis 
• Severe renal or hepatic insufficiency

How Does Gliclazide Modified Release (Glycitop MR 60) 60 mg Work?

Gliclazide is a hypoglycemic sulfonylurea oral antidiabetic which acts by reducing blood glucose levels by stimulating insulin secretion from the β-cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas.

Uses 

Gliclazide Modified Release is used  to treat the following conditions:

• Non-insulin-dependent diabetes (type 2) in adults, in association with dietary measures and with exercise

Special Precautions and Connected Warnings

Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:

• Hypoglycemia 
• Malnutrition 
• Irregular mealtimes
• Skipping meals 
• Periods of fasting or dietary changes 
• An imbalance between physical exercise & carbohydrate intake 
• Thyroid disorders
• Hypopituitarism & adrenal insufficiency
• Use of St. John’s wort preparations
• Fever
• Trauma 
• Infection or surgery may affect blood glucose control
• Dysglycemia (concomitant use w/ fluoroquinolones, especially in elderly) 
• G6PD-deficiency 
• Galactose intolerance
• Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption 
• May impair ability to drive or operate machinery
• Avoid use during pregnancy.

Storage Conditions

• Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
• Do not use a gliclazide modified release tablet that is expired or out of date.
