Deflazacort (Cortibrook 6) 6 mg tablet is a corticosteroid prodrug used as an agent to manage Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This disease can cause severe muscle weakness, regular breathing, and cardiovascular disability. It is an inherited disorder resulting from mutations of the dystrophin gene, which is essential for muscle function.

How To Take
This medicine is usually taken once a day with or without food.
If you cannot swallow the tablet whole, you may crush it and mix it with applesauce. The mixture should be taken immediately.
Take Deflazacort at around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.
Take Deflazacort precisely as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Dosage
Adult: Initial: Up to 120 mg/day. Maintenance: 3-18 mg/day.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose
If you think you may have used Deflazacort more than the usual dose, please seek medical help immediately.
Contraindications
People with the following medical conditions should not take Deflazacort:
- Systemic infection (unless specific therapy is given)
- Concurrent administrationof live virus vaccines in patients receiving immunosuppressive doses

- Patient withinfection
- History of TB
- Cardiac disease or congestive heart failure(except in the presence of active rheumatic carditis)
- Hypertension
- Thromboembolic disorders
- Gastrointestinaldisorders (i.e., gastritis, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, peptic ulcer, pyogenic infections)
- Diabetes mellitus(including family history)
- Osteoporosis
- Myasthenia gravis
- Epilepsy
- Emotional instability
- History of corticosteroid-induced myopathy
- Hypothyroidism
- Ocular herpes simplex
- Avoid abrupt withdrawal after prolonged therapy.
- Renal and hepatic (including hepatic failure and cirrhosis) impairment
- Children
- Pregnancy and lactation
Storage Conditions
- Store at or below 25°C.
- Do not use Deflazacort that is expired or out of date.
