Drotaverine + Mefenamic (Spasmoheal) 80 mg + 250 mg tablet is a combination of two drugs used as an antispasmodic drug, indicated for the symptomatic treatment of spasmodic dysmenorrhea, colic pains including ureteric, biliary and intestinal colic.

How To Take

This medicine may be taken with or without food.

Dosage

Rheumatoid arthritis, mild to moderate pain, dental pain, postoperative pain, dysmenorrhoea, osteoarthritis, menorrhagia Oral: Adults: 250-500 mg three times a day. Children: 6 months and above: 25 mg/kg daily in divided doses for up to 7 days.

Antispasmodic Oral: Adults: 40-80 mg three times a day, Children: 1-6 years old: 20 mg 3-4 times a day, Above six years old: 40 mg three times a day.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

Do not double a dose under any circumstances.

Overdose 

Signs of overdose may include the following:

• Convulsions

Seek medical help immediately.

Contraindications

People with the following medical conditions should not take Drotaverine + mefenamic acid:

• Inflammatory bowel disease
• Peptic ulcer
• Neonates
• Pregnancy
• Lactation
• Coronary artery bypass graft surgery
• Severe renal impairment

How Does It Work?

Drotaverine inhibits the formation of phosphodiesterase-IV (PDE-4), which exerts contractile action in smooth muscles, thereby inhibiting cyclic AMP (cAMP), resulting in correction of calcium levels at the spastic tissues and thus alleviate the smooth muscle spasm. Mefenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that relieves pain symptoms by inhibiting pain mediators associated with cyclooxygenase pathway.

Storage Conditions
