How To Take Vildagliptin (Vildasmart 50) 50 mg

This medicine may be taken with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Vildagliptin must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.

Take Vildagliptin precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Dosage 

Adult: 50 mg twice a day.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

Do not double a dose under any circumstances.

Overdose of Vildagliptin (Vildasmart 50) 50 mg

Signs of overdose may include the following:

• Muscle pain 
• Mild and transient paraesthesia
• Fever
• Edema 
• Transient increase in lipase levels
• Increases in creatine phosphokinase, AST, C-reactive protein and myoglobin levels

Seek medical help immediately.

Contraindications

People with the following medical conditions should not take Vildagliptin:

• Congestive heart failure
• Lactic acidosis or diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma

• Nausea

Warnings

Do not use vildagliptin in people with the following conditions:

How Does Vildagliptin (Vildasmart 50) 50 mg Work?

Vildagliptin rapidly and completely inhibits dipeptidyl peptidase-4 DPP-4 activity, resulting in increased fasting and endogenous postprandial levels of the incretin hormones such as GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1), allowing to potentiate the secretion of insulin in the beta cells.

Special Precautions and Connected Warnings

Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:

• Patient with cardiac failure (NYHA functional class IV)
• Type 1 diabetes mellitus
• History of acute pancreatitis
• It is not intended for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. 
• Hepatic impairment, including patients w/ pre-treatment ALT or AST > three times the upper limit of normal 
• Moderate or severe renal impairment 
• End stage renal disease
• You need to maintain a healthy diet and weight to help keep your diabetes under control.
• Avoid alcohol.

Storage Conditions

• Store below 30°C. Protect from moisture.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
• Do not use vildagliptin that is expired or out of date.
