How To Take Sumatriptan (Sumitop-100) 100 mg

This medicine may be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.

Take Sumatriptan only when you have a migraine attack. Do not take this medicine if you do not have a migraine attack.

Sumatriptan should be taken at the first sign of a migraine headache. If your migraine headache does not go away after taking the first dose, do not receive a second dose without first asking your doctor. If your doctor says that you can take a second dose, wait for at least 2 hours from the time you took the first dose before taking the second dose.

Do not take more than two doses of Sumatriptan in 24 hours.

Do not take more than 300 mg of Sumatriptan in 24 hours.

Take Sumatriptan precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Dosage of Sumatriptan (Sumitop-100) 100 mg

Adult: Migraine: 18 years old and above 50-100 mg, repeat two-hourly if migraine recurs‚ÄĒmaximum dose of 300 mg every 24 hours.¬†

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

Do not double a dose under any circumstances.


If you think you may have used Sumatriptan more than the usual dose, please seek medical help immediately.


People with the following medical conditions should not take Sumatriptan:

  • Not to be used prophylactically and in patients with basilar or hemiplegic or ophthalmoplegic migraine
  • History of myocardial infarction or stroke
  • Severe hepatic impairment
  • Ischemic heart disease¬†
  • Uncontrolled hypertension¬†
  • Peripheral vascular disease¬†
  • Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides

How Sumatriptan (Sumitop-100) 100 mg Work?

Sumatriptan is a selective serotonin 5-HT1 receptor agonist that causes vasoconstriction of cranial arteries and inhibits the neurogenic inflammatory processes in the central nervous system. It can cause small but significant delays in gastric emptying.

Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:

  • Presence of coronary risk factors
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Renal or hepatic impairment
  • Elderly, pregnancy, and lactation.
  • Certain types of food and food additives such as chocolate, cheese, coffee and monosodium glutamate (MSG) may trigger a migraine attack. You may want to keep a food diary to help you identify possible foods that trigger off your migraine attacks.
  • Avoid alcohol.
