How To Take
This medicine should be taken together with food or immediately after a meal. Try to make it at the same time each day.
If you are taking the tablet, swallow it whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.
Your doctor will decide the dose of Sevlamer. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment regimen depending on your condition, response and tolerability to this medicine.
Sevlamer must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
Take Sevlamer precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Dosage of Sevlamer (Sevlaheal 800) 800 mg
Adult: As sevlamer carbonate/HCl: Initial: 800-1600 mg three times a day. Doses should be adjusted based on serum phosphate level. The maintenance dose is 800-4,000 mg. Patients are switching from calcium acetate based on the current dosage: Ca acetate 667 mg is equivalent to sevlamer (carbonate/HCl) 800 mg.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose of Sevlamer (Sevlaheal 800) 800 mg
If you think you may have used Sevlamer more than the usual dose, please seek medical help immediately.
Contraindications
People with the following medical conditions should not take Sevlamer:
- Patients w/ hypophosphatemia or bowel obstruction

- Hypercalcemia
- Esophageal and dysphagia
- Diarrhea
- Flatulence
- Ileus
- Peritonitis
- Diverticulitis
- Dyspepsia
- Intestinal obstruction and perforation
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Pruritus
- Rash
Warnings
Do not use Sevlamer in people with the following conditions:
- Hypophosphatemia
- Bowel obstruction
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- Ciclosporin
- Tacrolimus
- Mycophenolate
- Levothyroxine
- Ciprofloxacin
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and non-prescription medicines.

Sevlamer is a polymeric compound which acts by binding to phosphate molecules in the gut, thereby limiting its absorption and thus lowering serum phosphate levels without altering calcium, aluminium, or bicarbonate levels.
