Misoprostol (Cytoheal 200) 200 mg tablet is a prostaglandin analog used to treat ulcers in the stomach and duodenum. It is also used in the prevention of stomach ulcers associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and childbirth-related concerns such as induction of labour and medical termination of pregnancy.

How To Take
Misoprostol should be taken after meals. Take this medicine at bedtime. Try to make it at the same time each day.
Misoprostol must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
Take Misoprostol exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more than instructed by your doctor.
Dosage of Misoprostol (Cytoheal 200) 200 mg
Adult: Gastric and duodenal ulcers; NSAID-associated ulceration: 800 mcg/day in 2-4 divided doses for at least four weeks, may continue up to 8 weeks if needed.
Prophylaxis of NSAID-induced ulcers: 200 mcg 2-4 times/day, may reduce dose to 100 mcg four times/day.
Termination of pregnancy (49 days or less duration): 400 mcg as a single dose, given 36-48 hours after mifepristone.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose of Misoprostol (Cytoheal 200) 200 mg
Signs of overdose may include the following:
- Convulsions
- Sedation
- Tremor
- Dyspnea
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Fever
- Palpitations
- Hypotension
- Bradycardia
Seek medical help immediately.
Contraindications
People with the following medical conditions should not take Misoprostol:
- Pregnancy, including those not confirmed by ultrasound or biological tests, ectopic pregnancy, contraindication for mifepristone, pregnancy beyond 49 days of amenorrhoea.
- When labour has started; suspicion or evidence of fetal compromise before induction or uterine scar; uterine abnormality; placenta praevia or unexplained vaginal bleeding after 24 weeks gestation; fetal malpresentation; signs/symptoms of chorioamnionitis (unless the prior treatment has been instituted); before 36 weeks gestation. Concurrent use of oxytoxic drugs or other labour induction agents.

Potentially Fatal:
- Toxic shock and septic shock following infections
Warnings
Do not use Misoprostol in people with the following conditions:
- Pregnancy
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any of these medicines:
- Oxytocin
- Carbetocin
- Magnesium-containing antacids
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and non-prescription medicines.

How Does Misoprostol (Cytoheal 200) 200 mg Work?
Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analogue which protects the gastrointestinal mucosa by inhibiting the secretion of basal, stimulated and nocturnal acid and by reducing the volume of gastric secretions and increasing the flow of bicarbonate and mucus. It also induces contractions of smooth muscle fibres of the myometrium and relaxation of the cervix uteri.

Special Precautions and Connected Warnings
Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:
- Patients with conditions that predispose to diarrhea (e.g. inflammatory bowel disease)
- Cardiovascular disease
- Disease states where hypotension may precipitate severe complications (e.g. cerebrovascular disease, coronary artery disease or severe peripheral vascular disease including hypertension)
- Patients in whom dehydration would be dangerous
- Renal impairment
- Lactation
- Avoid alcohol
Storage Conditions
- Store at or below 25°C.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
- Do not use Misoprostol that is expired or out of date.
