How Does Levetiracetam (Heppra 1000) 1000 mg Work?
The exact mechanism through which Levetiracetam exerts its antiepileptic effects is unclear. However, studies show that Levetiracetam affects intraneuronal calcium levels by inhibiting partially the N-type calcium currents and by reducing the calcium release from intraneuronal stores. It facilitates the inhibitory transmission of GABA through the displacement of negative modulators. It also reduces delayed rectifier potassium current and binds to synaptic proteins, which modulate the release of neurotransmitters.
