How To Take

This medicine may be taken with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Atorvastatin must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better.

Take Atorvastatin precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Dosage of Atorvastatin (Lipidator 5) 5 mg

Adult: Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia; Nonfamilial hypercholesterolaemia; Mixed dyslipidemia: Dose is individualized according to baseline LDL-C levels, the goal of therapy, and patient response. Usual initial dose: 10 or 20 mg once daily, may be adjusted according to response at 2-4 weeks interval. Typical range: 10-80 mg once daily. Maximum of 80 mg/day.

Familial homozygous hypercholesterolaemia: As an adjunct to other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis): 10-80 mg daily. Prophylaxis of cardiovascular events in high-risk patient Primary prevention: Initial: 10 mg daily, may be given at higher doses as necessary to attain LDL-cholesterol levels according to current guidelines.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

Do not double a dose under any circumstances.

Overdose of Atorvastatin (Lipidator 5) 5 mg

Contraindications

How Does Atorvastatin (Lipidator 5) 5 mg Work?

Atorvastatin is a selective and competitive HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that inhibits the enzyme needed in the conversion of HMG-CoA to produce mevalonate. The reduction of mevalonate production results in lower LDL-cholesterol levels.
