Minoxidil (Minoxytop 5 mg) 5 mg tablet is a potent direct-acting peripheral vasodilator used in the management of severe high blood pressure which causes damage to vital organs. It is also used in those who are unresponsive to standard therapy for high blood pressure.

How To Take
Minoxidil may be taken with or without food. Try to make it at the same time each day.
Take Minoxidil precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more than instructed by your doctor.
Dosage of Minoxidil (Minoxytop 5 mg) 5 mg
Adult: Severe HTN unresponsive to standard therapy In conjunction with a beta-blocker or methyldopa, and a diuretic: Initial: 5 mg/day, increase gradually at intervals of at least three days up to 40 mg or 50 mg as a single or in 2 divided doses daily. Maximum of 100 mg/day.
For rapid control of BP: Dose increments of 5 mg 6 hourly may be given.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose of Minoxidil (Minoxytop 5 mg) 5 mg

Contraindications
People with the following medical conditions should not take Minoxidil:
- Pheochromocytoma
- Topical: Patient with treated or untreated hypertension, scalp abnormality (e.g. psoriasis, sunburn)
- Shaved scalp

Minoxidil may have the following side effects:
- Reflex tachycardia
- Fluid retention
- Changes in ECG
- Hypertrichosis
- Pericardial effusion and tamponade
- Pericarditis
- Exacerbation of angina pectoris
- Headache
- Nausea
- Gynecomastia
- Breast tenderness
- Polymenorrhoea
- Allergic rashes
- Stevens-Johnson syndrome
- Rarely, thrombocytopenia and leucopenia
- Topical: Contact dermatitis, pruritus, local burning, flushing, changes in hair colour or texture.
Warnings
Do not use Minoxidil in people with the following conditions:
- Pheochromocytoma

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and non-prescription medicines.
