How To Take
This medicine should be taken with main meals or with a glass of milk. Try to make it at the same time each day.
Take Nitrofurantoin precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Dosage of Nitrofurantoin (Uriheal 100) 100 mg
Adult: Acute uncomplicated UTI: 50 mg 4 times/day for 7 days (immediate-release); 100 mg twice a day for 7 days (dual-release). For severe chronic recurrent cases: 100 mg 4 times/day for 7 days (immediate-release).
Prophylaxis of uncomplicated UTI: 50-100 mg once daily (immediate-release).
Prophylaxis of surgical infections: 50 mg 4 times/day (immediate-release); 100 mg twice a day (dual-release). All doses start on the day of the procedure and three days after that.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose of Nitrofurantoin (Uriheal 100) 100 mg
Signs of overdose may include the following:
- Gastric irritation
- Nausea
- Vomiting
Seek medical help immediately.
Contraindications
People with the following medical conditions should not take Nitrofurantoin:
- Hypersensitivity
- Acute porphyria
- G6PD deficiency
- Infants <1 month
- Pregnancy at term (during labour and delivery)
- Severe renal impairment
- Anuria
- Oliguria
- Significantly elevated serum creatinine
- History of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic impairment associated with previous nitrofurantoin use
- Concurrent vaccination with live polio vaccines

Warnings
Do not use Nitrofurantoin in people with the following conditions:
- Allergic reaction to similar nitrofurans such as nitrofural and nifurtimox.
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
- G6PD deficiency
- Pregnancy
- Infants
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any of these medicines:
- Probenecid
- Sulfinpyrazone
- Magnesium trisilicate
- Norfloxacin, ofloxacin
- Acetazolamide
- Typhoid vaccine
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and non-prescription medicines.

How Does Nitrofurantoin (Uriheal 100) 100 mg Work?
Nitrofurantoin is generally bacteriostatic but can be bactericidal in high doses. It interferes with the organism’s carbohydrate metabolism by inhibiting bacterial acetyl coenzyme-A. It also inhibits protein synthesis, aerobic energy metabolism, DNA, RNA, and bacterial cell wall synthesis.

Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:
- Patient with anemia
- Diabetes mellitus
- Vitamin B deficiency
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Debilitating diseases
- Pre-existing pulmonary diseases
- Neurological disorders, or allergic diathesis
- Lactation
- Children and the elderly
- Avoid alcohol
Storage Conditions
- Store between 15-30°C.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
- Do not use Nitrofurantoin that is expired or out of date.
