Dutasteride (Dutaheal 0.5) 0.5 mg tablet is an oral synthetic 4-azasteroid used on its own or other medicines to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland in men called Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH). The enlarged prostate gland may cause problems in urination. It helps to shrink the prostate to improve symptoms such as difficulty passing urine, slow or interrupted flow of urine, frequent urination and dribbling after passing urine.

How To Take

This medicine may be taken with or without food. Try to make it at the same time each day.

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, break, or open the capsule as Dutasteride may irritate your mouth or throat.

Your doctor will decide the dose of this medicine. Your doctor will advise you on the course of your treatment, depending on your condition and the effectiveness of the therapy.

This medicine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking Dutasteride even when you feel better.

Take Dutasteride precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Dosage

Adult: 500 mcg once daily.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

Do not double a dose under any circumstances.

Overdose 

If you think you may have used Dutasteride more than the usual dose, please seek medical help immediately.

Contraindications

People with the following medical conditions should not take Dutasteride:

• Women

• Adolescents
• Severe hepatic impairment
• Pregnancy and lactation

Dutasteride may have the following side effects:

• Impotence
• Decreased libido
• Ejaculation disorder

• Depressed mood
• Testicular pain and swelling
• Decreased prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentration

Warnings

Do not use Dutasteride in people with the following conditions:

• Severe liver disease
• Women
• Children

How Does It Work?

Dutasteride is a selective steroid 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor, isoenzymes type 1 (skin and hepatic), and type 2 (reproductive tissues). This results in the inhibition of the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone and markedly suppresses serum dihydrotestosterone levels.
