Bupropion HCl E.R. (Buproban-150) 150 mg tablet is a norepinephrine/dopamine-reuptake inhibitor used to treat depression. It helps you stop smoking by reducing the withdrawal symptoms caused by smoking cessation and for seasonal affective disorder, which is characterized by mood disorders during the autumn and winter months. It is used commonly for the management of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and as an aid for smoking cessation.

How To Take
This medicine may be taken with or without food. Try to take Bupropion at the same time each day.
If you are taking Bupropion for smoking cessation, get a target date to stop smoking within two weeks of starting Bupropion.
If you are taking the sustained-release, prolonged-release or extended-release type of tablet (usually labelled as “S.R.”, “XL” or “E.R.”), swallow it whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.
This medicine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better.
Take Bupropion precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label.
Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor. Your doctor may increase your dose gradually to reduce the likelihood of side effects.
Dosage of Bupropion HCl E.R. (Buproban-150) 150
Adult: Smoking cessation: As modified-release preparation: Initial: 150 mg once daily for six days, then increase to 150 mg twice a day. Duration: 7-9 weeks. Maximum of 300/day.
Depression: Initial: 100 mg three times a day, up to 100 mg three times a day after three days if needed. Maximum of 150 mg three times a day. As a modified-release preparation: 150 mg once daily, increased to 150 mg twice a day after three days, then up to 200 mg twice a day after several weeks if needed—maximum of 450 mg as a single dose.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose of Bupropion HCl E.R. (Buproban-150) 150
Signs of overdose may include the following:
- Hallucinations
- Nausea
- Loss of consciousness
- Tachycardia
- Seizures
Seek medical help immediately.
Contraindications
People with the following medical conditions should not take Bupropion:
- Current or history of seizure disorder
- Eating disorders (e.g. bulimia or anorexia nervosa)
- Central nervous systemtumour
- Epilepsy
- History of bipolar disorder (when used as an aid in smoking cessation)
- Abrupt withdrawal of alcohol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, antiepileptic drugs
- Severe hepatic cirrhosis

Warnings
Do not use Bupropion in people with the following conditions:
- History of head trauma, tumour involving the central nervous system

How Does Bupropion HCl E.R. (Buproban-150) 150 Work?
Bupropion is a weak inhibitor of enzymes involved in the neuronal uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine, with minimal effect on serotonin reuptake. The mechanism, when used as an aid to smoking cessation, is thought to grant its anti-craving and anti-withdrawal effects by inhibiting dopamine reuptake, thereby reducing the effects of nicotine.

Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:
- Bipolar disorders (in the treatment of depression)
- Recent history of heart attack or unstable heart disease
- Other risk factors for seizures (e.g. alcohol abuse, diabetes, history of head trauma)
- Renal or mild to moderate hepatic impairment
- Elderly
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Avoid alcohol
Storage Conditions
- Store between 15-30°C.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
- Do not use Bupropion that is expired or out of date.
