How To Take

Take Desogestrel+Ethinylestradiol precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Try to take it at the same time each day.

Dosage

Adult: Dosing instruction may vary according to the brand. For 21-day pack: Start on 1st day of menses. One tab/day for 21 days, followed by seven pill-free days. Start a new box on the 8th day after the last tab is taken. For 28-day pack: Start on 1st day of menses. One tab/day without interruption. Take the dose at the same time every day.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

Do not double a dose under any circumstances.

Overdose 

Signs of overdose may include the following:

How Does It Work?

Desogestrel + Ethinylestradiol is used together to inhibit ovulation by a negative feedback mechanism on the hypothalamus, which alters the normal FSH and LH secretion pattern by the anterior pituitary. It also causes changes in the cervical mucus, making it unsuitable for sperm penetration.

Special Precautions and Connected Warnings

Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:

  • Breast cancer
  • Glucose intolerance
  • Thromboembolism
  • May affect serum levels of triglyceride and lipoprotein
  • Caution when used in patients with familial defects of lipoprotein metabolism
  • Discontinue treatment if papilledema or retinal vascular lesions are observed on eye examination
  • Patients with risk factors for coronary artery disease
  • Patients with depression or history of migraine
  • Renal impairment
  • Increased cardiovascular risk in smoking women especially those >35 years
  • Treatment should be stopped for 4weeks before and for 2 weeks after surgery associated with increased risk of thromboembolism or during periods of prolonged immobilization
  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice
